
In a recent report by the National Bank of Cambodia (NBC), it was revealed that Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in Cambodia has reached an impressive 197.8 trillion KHR (48.4 billion USD) by 2023. This marks an increase of 7.9% over the previous year, indicating a robust and growing economy.

China emerged as the leading source of FDI, contributing 45.6% to the total FDI. This is followed by South Korea (11.8%), Singapore (6.5%), Japan (6.2%), Vietnam (5.3%), Malaysia (4.4%), Thailand (4.0%), Canada (3.5%), UK (3.2%), and others (9.5%). This diverse range of investment sources underscores Cambodia’s increasing appeal to international investors.

The report also highlighted the sectors that attracted the most investment. The inflow of investment went into major sectors of the Cambodian economy, including financial activities (23.3%), manufacturing (22.3%), real estate (11.2%), accommodation (10.1%), agriculture (9.2%), energy (6.2%), and construction (5.8%). The wide range of sectors receiving investment reflects the diverse opportunities available in Cambodia’s economy.
Cambodia has been working to attract foreign investment in recent years, and the government has implemented a number of policies such as the Law on Investment in Cambodia, to make the country more attractive to foreign investors. These policies include offering tax breaks, reducing bureaucracy, improving infrastructure, and more.
This surge in FDI is a testament to Cambodia’s economic resilience and potential. It is expected that this upward trend will continue, further strengthening the country’s economic position on the global stage.
